It had been a lazy Saturday when I had sat indoors long enough and was itching to walk my legs a bit. I headed to the city center deciding to make my plans from there on. Disembarking the bus, I took a few steps forward when I heard a voice call my name! I turned around in excitement… well yeah, when you had been cooped up at home with none other than virtual people to talk to, the impact of such a serendipitous meeting can provoke deep emotions. It didn’t take me too long to rope in my good colleague to join me on my ramblings.
We checked out the first mall in Hildesheim and quickly made plans to make more worthwhile use of the prevailing good weather. And so we headed out to Hohnsensee – the lake/beach area in Hildesheim.
It was apparent by looking at the houses in the locality that it was one of the richest neighbourhoods in Hildesheim. I later had it confirmed that it indeed was. Looking at the restaurant Noah facing the lake, with neatly arranged tables and candles on them, I made a mental note to be back with someone.
I hadn’t realized that my town was so beautiful but the walk around the lake revealed much.
We met a number of anglers along the way but none of them seemed to be having any luck. I also had a doubt if the boys were just hanging around under the pretence of angling to admire the many “birds & feathers” floating around.
All set for a ride on the tortoise… At least that is what the carved trunk looked like to us.
I was content dipping my fingers in water while Jose proceeded to have his legs frozen.
Posing for us in all vanity… But I guess I couldn’t blame the beauty for being so.
The romantic areas of my little town.
A-maze-d.
On our walk back home, we chanced upon the beautiful St. Godehard Basilica. The houses and cobbled pathways around the church are the most beautiful that I have seen in Hildesheim. The area also has the oldest house in the town.
The one above is not the oldest but its state of dilapidation said much about the storms it had weathered.
I saw these roses imprinted on the pedestrian walk and then I learned about the Rose Route in Hildesheim from Jose. Following the roses printed at periodic intervals on the pavement takes you past all the important monuments in town. And yeah, you can literally walk the whole way since the town is not too big.
We followed the route for a little while, exclaimed at some more beautiful monuments and headed home. I loved my walk around the Hohnsensee – one of the most beautiful areas of Hildesheim.
I missed my camera dearly but my phone sufficed for the moment.
